Chandigarh: Punjab chief minister Bhagwant Mann's return trip from Frankfurt, Germany has mired in controversy after the Opposition alleged that Mann was deplaned from Lufthansa plane as he was "too drunk to walk".
Mann, who visited Germany between September 11 and 18 to attract investments as the state government said, was to take the 1.40 pm flight from Frankfurt on Sunday but boarded a different flight in the early hours of Monday.
The flight he was originally to board got delayed and took off at 4.30 pm while Mann's aides reportedly said the chief minister was unwell and thus delayed his return to Delhi.
While AAP accused the opposition of "spreading propaganda", opposition parties said the Punjab Chief Minister "shamed Punjabis" across the world.
A statement from Lufthansa shared by AAP said the flight took off later than planned following a "delayed inbound flight and an aircraft change".
Opposition parties attacked Mann citing reports that said he was drunk and the flight was delayed by four hours because of him, according to NDTV.
Akali Dal leader Sukhbir Singh Badal tweeted referring to media reports that quoted fellow passengers as saying Mann was deplaned from a Lufthansa flight after became too drunk to walk.
Sukhbir Singh Badal added that the reports embarrassed Punjabis all over the globe, and alleged that Punjab government is silent on the reports involving the chief minister.
The Congress cited reports that quoted a passenger on the Delhi-bound Lufthansa flight as saying that the Chief Minister was drunk.
