Chandigarh: Tarlochan Singh, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader in Punjab, was shot dead at his native village of Ikolaha in Ludhiana’s Khanna sub-division Monday evening, The Indian Express reported.
The 56-year-old Singh, who was AAP’s kisan wing coordinator in Khanna, was found dead at around 6.45 pm, police said.
It is reported that he was returning home from his farm when unidentified assailants shot him.
Khanna SSP Ashwini Gotyal reportedly said that Singh had ‘suffered bullet injuries. An investigation has been launched’.
A CCTV footage recovered by the police showed an assailant opening fire at the leader who was traveling on his two-wheeler.
His son Harpreet Singh and locals rushed the leader’s body to the nearby hospital where doctors confirmed his death.
He suffered three bullet injuries including in his head, according to the police.
Singh, who was previously associated with Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), joined AAP ahead of Punjab Assembly polls in 2022.
AAP MLA for Khanna, Tarunpreet Singh Sond called Singh an ‘active party leader’ having connections with farmers at grassroots’, adding that Singh was to contest in the upcoming sarpanch polls for Ikolaha.
Singh’s son Harpreet Singh linked the murder to “rivalry and personal enmity”, saying that his father received two bullet injuries in head proving that assailant had clear motive to hill him.
