New Delhi: On Saturday, opposition leaders including Congress president Sonia Gandhi, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav, CPI(M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury and National Conference leader Farooq Abdullah came on stage together to open the DMK's office in Delhi.
In addition to DMK party chief MK Stalin, other leaders from the TMC, TDP, CPI, BJD and SAD also attended the ceremony as Sonia Gandhi cut the ribbon from one of the sections of the office.
Tamil Nadu is home to an alliance between the Congress and the DMK.
Mahua Moitra of TMC represented the party at the event, while Rammohan Naidu and K Ravindra Kumar represented the TDP. D Raja from CPI, Amar Patnaik from BJD and Harsimrat Badal from SAD were also in attendance.
MPs of both Houses of the DMK, including members of the Tamil Nadu government, and Udhayanidhi Stalin, Stalin's son, were also present.
Stalin characterized the event as a "compelling symbol" of his party's crucial place in national politics, its policies, and the vehicle to implement them, the Dravidian model', as something that would write the history of southern India from Delhi.
DMK chief Stalin, in an open letter to DMK workers, had described the newly designated Anna-Kalaignar Arivalayam office as a Dravidian fort. He also invited leaders from almost all parties, including BJP and other non-UPA parties, to visit.
