7 booked for sexually assaulting minor in Uttar Pradesh

Pilibhit/UP: The Uttar Pradesh Police booked seven people who were accused of barging into a home and sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl. However, the girl's mother lamented that the incident happened on August 22, but police registered the case only on Friday, IANS reported.

The case was registered only after the order of a special judge.

The Station House Officer (SHO), Madan Mohan Chaturvedi, said that the seven were charged with various IPC sections and the POCSO Act. But no arrest has been registered so far.

The victim's mother said that the police weren't ready to register a case at first despite filing a complaint. She said in her complaint that five sons of an influential person in their village used to verbally abuse her daughter when she went to school.

On August 22, the accused dragged the girl on the road, gagged her and molested her. Locals heard her screams and rescued her then. On the same day, the miscreants barged into the girl's home, grabbed the girl and tore her clothes to sexually assault her, the mother alleged.

They beat the girl up, attacked her parents when they attempted to rescue her, and one of the accused hit the girl's father on his head to injure him seriously.

The mother had approached the Sungarhi police station to register an FIR and sent a written complaint to SP Dinesh Kumar Prabhu, but no action was taken, she said.

However, the SP claimed, "Why would I decline police action on such a big incident. No one from the victim's side approached me in person or over the phone regarding the incident."
