45 govt school students fall ill after midday meal in Sangareddy

Hyderabad: At least 45 students at a government primary school in Venkatapur village, Sangareddy district, fell ill Thursday after consuming midday meals, in what appears to be a case of food poisoning.

While serving lunch, students noticed a foul smell from one of the curries and complained, but their concerns were ignored. Soon after eating, many experienced vomiting and stomach pain.

Twenty-three students were rushed to Narayankhed government hospital, where doctors reported most are stable but under observation.

Narayankhed MLA and Congress leader Sanjeeva Reddy, a doctor by profession, visited the hospital and reassured parents. "Parents were anxious about the health of their children. But there is nothing to worry," he told reporters.

Reddy said he's warned the school supervisor to strictly follow the midday meal menu and ordered school repainting and potential gas cylinder provision if needed.
