30,570 fresh Covid cases in India, 12.4% higher than yesterday

New Delhi: India reported 30,570 fresh COVID-19 cases today, 12.4 per cent higher than yesterday. The total active cases is 3,42,923. The government said so far 76.57 crore doses of vaccines have been administered across the country.

The daily death toll also saw a sharp increase with 431 fatalities and now stands at 443,928, according to the data by the Union ministry of health and family welfare. On Wednesday, the daily fatalities were at 284.

The top five states which registered the maximum cases of the novel coronavirus are Kerala with 17,681 cases, followed by Maharashtra with 3,783 cases, Tamil Nadu with 1,658 cases, Andhra Pradesh with 1,445 cases and Mizoram with 1,402 cases.

As many as 84.95 per cent of the new cases are reported from these five states, with Kerala alone responsible for 57.84 per cent of the new cases.

Meanwhile, 431 more people succumbed to the virus in the last 24 hours, pushing the nation's toll to 4,43,928. The maximum casualties were reported in Kerala (208), followed by Maharashtra with 56 daily deaths. 

Earlier this week, the Union ministry stressed that more than 70 per cent of the deaths that occurred in patients are due to comorbidities.

The country has administered at least 760 million Covid vaccine doses as of Wednesday. According to the government release, authorities administered 764,936,158 vaccine doses across the states and UTs as of 7pm on Wednesday. As many as 5,710,380 doses were administered on the day.

Active COVID-19 cases in India account for 1.03 per cent of total cases. The recovery rate is 97.64 per cent. 

At least 38,303 people have recovered in the last 24 hours. The weekly positivity rate of 1.93 per cent is below the 3 per cent mark for the last 83 days.

The daily positivity rate is reported to be 1.94 per cent for the last 17 days.

In 2020, India's Covid tally crossed the 20 lakh-mark on August 7, 30 lakh on August 23, 40 lakh on September 5 and 50 lakh on September 16.
