Pune: Three people have been electrocuted in Pune’s Deccan Gymkhana area as they were wadding through a waterlogged street following heavy rains in the area.
It was reported that Abhishek Ghanekar, Akash Mane and Shiva Parihar, all street vendors in the area, were trying to recover a handcart from a flooded street.
The rains have paralysed normal life in the area with schools remaining shut and residential areas are flooded.
Several places in Mumbai and neighbouring Thane are reeling from heavy rain.
Andheri, Sion, Chembur and Kurla and Thane's Mumbra remain waterlogged.
Authorities have closed the Andheri Subway in Mumbai following waterlogging.
It is reported citing the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation that two of the seven lakes with the capacities of 2,769 crore litres and 12,892 litres, supplying water to the city, are flowing today.
As the situation remain grim in Pune, the teams of Natioanl Disaster Response Force( NDRF) started rescue operation in places including Ekta Nagar, Sinhgad Road and Varje.
The Baba Bhide bridge on Mutha river remains submerged in water following the downpour.
Reviewing the situation, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar directed the district administration to stay alert.
Pune collector Suhas Diwase has ordered to close all tourist spots for 48 hours, alongside banning traffic on bridges in danger.
The district administration asked residents to stay indoors.
After Khadakwasla dam has reached its full capacity from heavy rainfall, an alert has been issued to residents living along Mutha riverbank.
The water level in Panchaganga River in Kolhapur has crossed the danger mark.
Following the development, NDRF is assisting evacuation in areas near the river.
