With 26,041 fresh Covid cases recorded in the last 24 hours, India's daily tally this morning was eight per cent lesser than yesterday.
The death toll climbed to 4,47,194 with 276 fresh fatalities, according to the data updated at 8 am. The active cases comprise 0.89 per cent of the total infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate was recorded at 97.78 per cent, the ministry said. A decrease of 3,856 cases has been recorded in the active COVID-19 caseload in a span of 24 hours.
The five states which registered the most number of cases on Monday are Kerala with 15,951 cases, Maharashtra with 3,206 cases, Tamil Nadu with 1,694 cases, Andhra Pradesh with 1,184 cases and Karnataka with 775 cases.
More than 87 per cent of the new cases were reported in these five states, with Kerala alone responsible for 61.25 per cent of them.
The maximum Covid-19 casualties on Monday were reported in Kerala (165), followed by Maharashtra with 36 daily deaths.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday, in his radio address "Mann Ki Baat", warned against complacency during the festive season. "In this festival we have to remember about one more fight - that is the country's fight against coronavirus. Team India is making new records every day in this fight," said PM Modi, referring to the country's record vaccination on his birthday.
India administered a total of 38,18,362 Covid-19 vaccine doses in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of doses administered across the country under the nationwide vaccination drive to 86,01,59,011.
Meanwhile, a total of 11,65,006 samples were tested for Covid in the last 24 hours.
