2 cars with same number plates cause security scare at Mumbai's Taj Hotel

Mumbai: Two cars carrying the same number plates caused security scare outside iconic Taj Mahal Palace Hotel in Mumbai Monday, India Today reported.

Police arrested the man who put up a fake number plate on one of the cars to dodge a finance company.

Prasad Chandrakant Kadam wanted to ward off the company from confiscating the vehicle for not paying EMIs on the car loan.

The 38-year-old Navi Mumbai resident is charged with forgery.

Kadam said his vehicle was towed away twice earlier for failing to pay EMIs.

The case of identical number plates came out when a man Sakir Ali began frequently getting e-challans for traffic violations.

An official said that Sakir felt something was wrong and ‘that afternoon found a car with the same number plate as that of his vehicle.’

After Sakir confronted Kadam, who was in his car with the forged number plate, both vehicles were taken to Colaba police station.

‘A case under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) was registered on Ali's complaint and Kadam was arrested,’ the police added.

When his car was confiscated by lenders earlier, Kadam scraped up some money to release it.
