"Mumbai: The Mumbai Terror attacks which put Indians at the pinpoint of terror for 60 hours has turned 12 years today. The attack which had begun on November 26, 2008 culminated at 8 am, on 29 morning.
The armed forces executed nine terrorists who stormed into the scene and caught Ajmal Kasab alive. The terrorists also induced grenade attacks and shootings at Leopold Café, Taj Oberoi hotels, Nariman House, C.S.T Railway station and Kama hospital and killed 166 people including 25 foreigners.
ATS director Hemant Karkare, S.P Ashok Kamte, inspector Vijay Salaskar, and a Keralite NSG Commando Major Unnikrishnan fell victims to the terrorist shootings. Sub Inspector Tukaram Oble had sacrificed his life to arrest Kasab red-handed.
Ajmal Kasab was hanged after investigation in 2012. It was found that 'Lashkar-e-Tayyiba' and 'Zakiyurahman Lakvi's were the kingpins behind the terror attacks. Abu Jandal from Bede region of Maharashtra who taught Hindi for the terrorists is also currently under trial.
Controversies surrounding the 26/11 attacks are still unsettled. The death of Hemant Karkare was the most intriguing one.
