100 Britain MPs urge their PM to take up farmers' protest with PM Modi

New Delhi: As the farmers protest continue to roil, 100 Britain MPs made no bones about expressing their anguish at what is happening in India.

They asked Minister Boris Johnson, who earlier last week called off his scheduled India visit on Republic Day, to take up farmers' issue with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

They urged in their letter to UK PM to press for a " speedy resolution of the current deadlock and the democratic human right of citizens to peacefully protest".

Punjab origin MP Tanmanjeet Singh shared the letter on Twitter Friday, when Johnson cancelled his India trip.

The letter claims that Johnson has " misunderstood" the protests in India.

Constituents of these MPs  have large number of Indian diaspora, many with farming backgrounds.

Meanwhile, there is no telling when the farmers could return to their homes, to start working for their livelihoods.

They are braving worst conditions, cut off from their congenial backgrounds, to fight for a cause of their life in far off Delhi.

Close to 60 farmers have succumbed to miseries they have been encountering since they laid siege to the Delhi borders.

The letter from Britain MPs to their Prime Minister showcases how deeply the protest resonates internationally, while the Indian government looks the other way.
