10-year-old boy ‘shoots’ teen sister while playing with gun

Lucknow: Police stated on Friday that a 16-year-old girl lost her life when her brother shot her presumably accidentally, on Wednesday night at their Unnao home while he was playing with a "country-made pistol". Officers added that the child was booked under pertinent sections of the IPC after his mother filed a police complaint on Thursday. Police added that a thorough investigation was ongoing and that no one had been placed under arrest yet.

According to the officers, the girl attended Class IX school and her parents are farmers. The event happened on Wednesday night as the child and his two sisters, who are 16 and 13, were playing while their parents were away, according to the police. The child allegedly pulled out a country-made pistol and started to play with it. The 16-year-old girl was hit in the stomach by a bullet after the weapon suddenly went off, according to police, who cited the girl's mother's complaint, Indian Express reported.

When the girl's neighbours heard the gunshot, they came to her aid and drove her to a local hospital, where the doctors pronounced her dead on arrival.

“The boy has been booked under IPC Section 304-A (causing death by negligence. No one has been detained yet,” said the in-charge of the police station concerned.

The officer went on to say that they were investigating how the youngster obtained the pistol because the boy's parents had stated that they didn't have one at home. According to the police, they are gathering video from CCTV cameras placed close to the residence where the incident took place.

They have also learned that the boy’s father had two cases registered against him in the past. “We are gathering information about the cases,” said a police officer.
