She created a new chapter in the history of medical science. The lessons this three-year old baby girl taught the world about organ donation will make her remembered even after her death.
Anjana, daughter of Ajith staying at Enikkara near Karakulam in Thiruvananthapuram, became the youngest organ donor in Kerala after her liver, kidneys, and cornea were harvested by doctors at a hospital here.
The toddler, who was suffering from a disease fainted while playing in front of her house and was rushed to the SAT hospital.
The doctors informed her parents about the remote chances of getting her back to life and requested them to donate her organs. The parents much to the dismay of their relatives accepted the request and agreed to donate Anjana's organs.
Their decision to keep the innocence and memories of their baby alive in this world even after her death was in fact a big relief to Kilirur resident Aniyan, father of Anin Raj, the five-year-old boy who received the organs. As the message was immediately communicated to the Kerala Network of Organ Sharing (KNOS) of the state government, the doctors from the Kerala Institute of Medical Sciences in Thiruvananthapuram, where Anin Raj had been undergoing treatment, rushed to the SAT.
Anjali’s cornea was taken to an eye hospital in the city. That will give light to two other persons.
The doctors at the KIMS are in hope to give Anin Raj a fresh lease of life as they think since the liver and the kidneys transplanted on him are from the same person, that would help him recover soon.
