Mumbai: Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor are set to collaborate in a high-scale romantic comedy under Karan Johar's Dharma Productions, with Shashank Khaitan, known for the Dulhania franchise, directing the project.
Recent speculations had circulated about various joint projects involving Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor, including talks about Dulhania 3 and a David Dhawan comedy featuring Kapoor. However, an exclusive update from Pinkvilla sheds light on the duo's actual collaboration.
The duo is reportedly in discussions to headline a romantic comedy helmed by Shashank Khaitan.
A source close to the project revealed, "Shashank has developed a new romantic comedy script with a unique title and is in advanced discussions with Varun and Janhvi to lead the film. It's anticipated to embody the classic essence of romantic comedies that Hindi cinema has been known for."
Apart from Varun and Janhvi, the production team is considering other actors to portray another couple in the film.
The movie, backed by Karan Johar, is scheduled to commence shooting around September 2024, embarking on an extensive filming schedule across real locations in India. "The team is finalising the script and aims to commence filming by late September 2024. The movie is slated for a grand release in 2025, centred around the theme of love and relationships," the source added.
Prior to joining Shashank's project, Varun Dhawan will wrap up filming for a comedy directed by his father, David Dhawan.
The father-son duo is gearing up to commence shooting around March or April 2024, with plans to cast two leading actresses for pivotal roles. Presently, Varun is engaged in filming for a project with Murad Khetani and Atlee, directed by Kalees. The team is set to unveil the first glimpse of VD 18, along with its title, within the next ten days.
