The Great Weddings of Munnes promises to be complete madness of humour

Voot Select web series 'The Great Weddings of Munnes' looks like a riot of comedy from its trailer. The Abhishek Banerjee and Barkha Singh starrer is taking advantage of the long-form experimental format OTT platforms offer.

The trailer revealed that Banerjee plays a man in pursuit of a bride but keeps getting rejected by women. When Mahi, played by Barkha, falls in love with him and makes the first move, he cannot believe his luck. However, Munnes' birth chart gets in the way of their happily ever after and he has to find another bride to marry and divorce before marrying Mahi. And his pursuit continues.

Created by Raaj Shaandilyaa and directed by Sunil Subramani, the 10-episode series will start streaming on August 4.

Speaking about the OTT show, Abhishek said the show and character are truly rare and unique. "I was eager to do a comedy and remember laughing uncontrollably during the script narration and instantly knew I was going to be a part of this show. It is a simple slice-of-life premise coupled with raw humour."

He added that Raaj has impressive clarity of thought and the ability to draw the best from every artist.

On the other hand, Barkha described the show to be "a complete madness." She recalled not being able to laugh even while filming because every situation and character have been beautifully sketched out.

"You can't help but feel connected with the characters' predicament. It is endearing and yet extremely hilarious. From getting comic timings right to bringing alive funny yet complex situations, it was a masterclass in the comedy genre. We can't wait to have the audience experience and enjoy this crazy journey," she added.

Creator Raaj Shaandilyaa said he couldn't have asked for a better show to debut in the OTT universe. He said the team was keen on creating a memorable comic series for the family mounted on a Bollywood-like scale. "That seamless connection reflects in the final product, where the chemistry and comic timing of every character is just unbelievable. I am so grateful to my cast and crew for bringing alive our vision so well," he added.

The show also stars Sunita Rajwar, Paresh Ganatra, Chetan Sharma, Sunil Chitkara, Banwarilal Jhol, and Aakash Dabhade.
