Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh said that the alleged obscene photos circulating on social media are morphed and do not belong to him. He met with Mumbai police to record his statement on August 29.
The FIR against Singh alleges that one photo from the nude photo shoot for New York-based Paper magazine allegedly has his private part visible. He clarified that the seven photographs from the magazine project he shared on Instagram do not include one such photo. He added that the photo with his private parts visible is morphed and does not belong to him.
A police officer told The Indian Express that Singh claimed to be wearing underwear in the photos shared on Instagram. The actor provided the investigators with all the photos taken during the photo shoot. Officials confirmed that the "obscene photo" in question was not found on his Instagram page.
The police have sent the photograph to the forensic science laboratory to confirm if it has been morphed. If proven right, the actor is likely to get a clean chit. Photographs shared on his Instagram account by the actor do not come under the definition of obscenity. Officials told ANI that the actor was completely cooperative with investigators and he will be summoned again if the need for further questioning is felt.
The Paper magazine photos were shared by the actor on July 21. In one of them, he was seen lying on a rug in an effort to recreate a famous photograph by Burt Reynold. On July 26, an office-bearer of the NGO filed an FIR saying the actor has hurt the sentiments of women. The police filed a case under IPC sections 292 (sale of obscene books, etc), 293 (sale of obscene objects to young people), 509 (word, gesture, or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman), and provisions of the Information Technology Act.
