Jaya Bachchan said that she has no problem if her granddaughter Navya Naveli Nanda chooses to have a child without getting married. She was speaking on Navya's podcast 'What The Hell Navya'.
The podcast brings together women of the Bachchan family and a new episode streams every Saturday. They have been discussing everything from parents to careers and love. The latest episode saw Jaya Bachchan opening up about relationships and marriage. She focused on how they have evolved from her younger years.
While discussing modern love, Jaya Bachchan said that it is best if people marry their best friends. "I am looking at it very clinically, Since there is a lack of emotion in romance today, I think you should marry your best friend. You should have a good friend. You should discuss and say that maybe I would like to have a child with you because I like you. I think you are nice. So let's get married."
She added she has no problem if Navya has a child without getting married. And Navya replied that she knows her grandmother will not object.
Jaya Bachchan further said that physical attraction and compatibility are important in relationships. "They are responsible for a long-lasting relationship. If there isn't a physical relationship, it is not going to last very long. You can't last on love, fresh air, and adjustment." The yesteryear actress added that her generation could not experiment. The younger generation experiments with relationships and there is nothing wrong with it.
She also revealed that her husband Amitabh Bachchan asked her to give up regular work opportunities before getting married. She said: "He said he does not want a wife who will be working nine to five." He asked Jaya to work but not every day. Big B also asked her to choose projects well and work with the right people. The couple will be celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary in 2023.
