Nivin Pauly's 'Thuramukham' to debut at Rotterdam Film Festival

Three Indian films will be competing at the prestigious International Film Festival of Rotterdam 2021, including Rajeev Ravi's 'Thuramukham' starring Nivin Pauly, Arjun Ashokan, Nimisha Sajayan, Darshana Rajendran, Manikandan Achari and Indrajith Sukumaran in lead roles. Titled "The Harbour", it is scheduled to compete in the 'Big Screen Competition' category.

The period film is based on the famous Mattanchery "Chappa" system of metal tokens which workers fought over and is set in the 1940-50 era. It is also an adaptation of a famous play of the same name.

"The Harbour shows how two brothers end up on opposing sides of this system. One becomes the leader of an employer's gang of thugs, while the other becomes an activist," reads the summary on the official IFFR website. "All the while, the women in their family go hungry and the community is ravaged by violence and alcoholism. In this epic film featuring a generous helping of fight sequences, the struggle for social justice and the desire to make the best of your life are two sides of the same coin,"

Poornima Indrajith and Indrajith will also be seen in the film which is scripted by Gopan Chidambaram and produced by Sukumar Thekkepattu.
