Netflix offers a lucrative Rs 7.4 crore annual salary to AI product manager to boost machine learning

Los Gatos: Streaming giant Netflix is seeking to enhance its internal utilisation of artificial intelligence (AI) and has posted a job listing for an Artificial Intelligence product manager with a staggering salary range of up to $900,000 (equivalent to Rs 7,40,33,775) annually.

The position, officially titled Product Manager - Machine Learning Platform, will be based at Netflix's headquarters in Los Gatos, California, or allow remote work on the west coast. The primary goal of the role is to "increase the leverage" of Netflix's machine learning program, which plays a pivotal role in the company's operations.

According to the job description on Netflix's website, the use of Machine Learning/Artificial Intelligence extends to diverse areas like content creation, member personalisation, payment processing optimization, and revenue-focused initiatives. With over 230 million members across 190 countries, Netflix relies on AI to power various aspects of its business, including content acquisition and personalised user recommendations.

To qualify for this prestigious position, candidates must possess experience in working with a centralised machine learning platform, the ability to collaborate with and lead Netflix's engineers, and excellent written communication and strategic thinking skills.

The OTT platform is also offering an annual salary of $650,000 (approximately Rs 5 crore) for the role of technical director in its Game Studio, which requires expertise in AI knowledge.

The job listing comes amid ongoing strikes by the Writer's Guild of America and the Screen Actors Guild, American Federation of Radio and Television Artists, over issues related to pay and growing concerns about the rising use of AI in the entertainment industry. This generous offer from Netflix has sparked debates over the priorities and practices of Hollywood.

As Netflix continues to innovate and expand its global entertainment reach, the role of AI in shaping its future remains critical, and the company is willing to invest substantially to attract top talent to advance its machine-learning capabilities.
