Hyderabad: A 35-year-old woman was killed during the stampede at the premiere of Allu Arjun starrer 'Pushpa 2: The Rule at a theatre in Hyderabad on Wednesday evening.
The woman’s 9-year-old son was seriously injured during chaos at Sandhya Theatre, according to NDTV.
The incident took place when huge crowds massed at the venue for a glimpse of the actor, Allu Arjun.
Crowds surged outside the theatre when the actor arrived with music director Devi Sri Prasad for the screening.
It is reported citing the police that the theatre's main gate collapsed under the pressure of the crowd.
Police had hard time controlling the crowds despite having resorted to lathi charge.
The injured boy was rushed to a private hospital, where he is undergoing treatment.
Thousands massed at the theatre to watch the film and see the film’s production crew, police said.
Police had to call in additional reinforcements to prevent further escalation.
Directed by Sukumar, 'Pushpa 2: The Rule', a sequel to the 2021 blockbuster 'Pushpa: The Rise', is scheduled for release across 10,000 screens in multiple languages.
Alongside Allu Arjun and Rashmika Mandanna, Fahadh Faasil also shares screen repeating his previous role.
The Telangana High Court allowed the release despite petitions challenging hiking of ticket prices in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.
