Meghan Markle launches Spotify podcast, Serena Williams stars in first episode

Los Angeles: Hollywood actress Meghan Markle has launched a weekly podcast Archetypes on Spotify. The first episode dropped on Tuesday and featured tennis icon Serena Williams.

Archetypes intends to deconstruct the history of societal stereotypes about women. Markle will have "uncensored conversations" with guests like historians and experts to shed light on the origin of stereotypes about women and how they shape narratives in the culture.

In the trailer of the podcast, Suits-fame actress was seen saying Archetypes will delve into "how we talk about women: the words that raise our girls, and how the media reflects women back to us. "But where do these stereotypes come from? And how do they keep showing up in defining our lives?" she asks.

Williams talked about the double standards women face when they are labelled "ambitious". The sportswoman recently announced her plans to retire from pro-tennis. Dr. Laura Cray, a professor at UC Berkeley and an expert on gender in the workplace, was also part of the first episode.

Next week's episode will feature Mariah Carey, American singer-songwriter.

Archetypes is the first series to launch on Spotify under its exclusive deal with Markle and Prince Harry's Archewell Audio. The streaming platform signed a deal with the former royal couple in 2020.

Earlier this year, the couple had concerns about Covid misinformation and the presence of Joe Rogan on Spotify. The deal seems to have smoothened out after Spotify assured that the problems related to misinformation are being addressed.

About Archewell Audio, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle said that the company is committed to producing programming that uplifts and entertains audiences around the world; spotlights diverse perspectives and voices; and builds community through shared experience, and narratives and values.

Archetypes is produced by Archewell Audio in partnership with Spotify's Gimlet Media. Archewell Productions also has an exclusive deal with Netflix.
