L2: Empuraan slows at box office on day 9, nears ₹100 crore mark

Mohanlal’s action-packed political thriller L2: Empuraan continues to hold ground at the box office, though its pace has slightly dipped.

On its second Friday, the film earned ₹3 crore, bringing its total domestic collection to ₹91.25 crore after nine days in theatres, as per data from Sacnilk.

The film reported an overall Malayalam occupancy of 20.07% on April 4.

Directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran, L2: Empuraan is the second installment in the Lucifer trilogy. The first part, Lucifer (2019), was a massive blockbuster, setting high expectations for its sequel.

Ahead of the release, director and co-star Prithviraj Sukumaran highlighted the film's expansive narrative. “L2: Empuraan is a fast-paced film that moves across multiple timelines and global locations. Since events unfold simultaneously in different eras and geographies, maintaining narrative clarity and pace was crucial,” he explained.

The film features Mohanlal reprising his role as Khureshi Ab’raam, while Prithviraj Sukumaran plays Zayed Masood. The ensemble cast includes Tovino Thomas, Indrajith Sukumaran, Manju Warrier, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Abhimanyu Singh, and international actors Eriq Ebouaney and Jerome Flynn.

Released on March 27, L2: Empuraan was launched in five languages - Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Hindi - to expand its reach across India. The film is jointly produced by Antony Perumbavoor, Gokulam Gopalan, and Subaskaran, under the banners of Aashirvad Cinemas, Sree Gokulam Movies, and Lyca Productions.
