Chennai: Fans of star Karthi travelled all the way from Japan to see his latest release 'Ponniyin Selvan 2' with Tamil audience.
The large-hearted actor welcomed them home and took time out to interact with them.
Terumi Kakubari Fujieda and Isao Endo have been fans of Karthi for a long time. Terumi said that she had come to Chennai just for three days to watch Ponniyin Selvan 2.
She flew back to Japan on Monday night. She also said she lived in India for two years before the pandemic.
“ When I was in Chennai, I watched Tamil films. I immediately liked Karthi. I have watched Kaithi several times. Since Tamil is a totally different language, I follow subtitles. Being Japanese, English subtitles are also difficult to follow. So, only when a DVD with Japanese subtitles was released, I bought it and ended up watching it often. It would be really grateful and helpful if Tamil films release in our country with Japanese subtitles”, Terumi said when asked how she started following Karthi’s work.
Pictures of the actor with his "international" fans are doing the rounds on social media.
Trade Analyst Ramesh Bala took to Twitter and shared a gamut of pictures and captioned it: "#PonniyinSelvan | After #Rajini it's for #Karthi !! Karthi fans from Japan came to Chennai, to watch #PonniyinSelvan2 with Tamil audience. Apparently, they watched movie for about 4 times and also happened to meet actor Karthi at his residence."
In the Mani Ratnam magnum opus, Karthi plays the character of commander Vandhiyathevan. The film also stars Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Trisha, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Vikram, Jayam Ravi and Sobhita Dhulipala, among many others.
Ponniyin Selvan 2 released worldwide in cinemas last Friday. The film grossed over ₹200 crore in its opening weekend worldwide.
