The much-anticipated historical drama Maharaj premiered on Friday, marking the Bollywood debut of Junaid Khan, son of Aamir Khan.
Following the release, Junaid shared his thoughts on the overwhelming positive reception he received.
"I can't put into words what I'm feeling right now. Maharaj has been a long and wild journey for me, but all's well that ends well, I guess," Junaid expressed. He added, "The film was made with a lot of love, respect, and passion, and I'm thrilled that both the movie and my performance are resonating with the audience."
Looking ahead, Junaid acknowledged, "I know I have miles to go and a lot to improve upon. I just hope to have a cast and crew as supportive in all my future endeavors."
Earlier that day, the Gujarat High Court lifted its temporary stay on the film's release.
Following this decision, Yash Raj Films (YRF) posted a statement on Instagram expressing their gratitude. "We are grateful to the judiciary for allowing the release of Maharaj, a film that celebrates one of the most important social reformers of our country, Karsandas Mulji," the statement read.
YRF further emphasized its commitment to India's heritage and stories, stating, "Yash Raj Films has a 50-year-old legacy of championing India, its stories, its people, culture, and heritage. We have never produced a film that tarnished the reputation of our country or our countrymen."
Directed by Sidharth P. Malhotra and produced by YRF Entertainment, Maharaj delves into the 1862 Maharaj Libel Case. The film stars Junaid Khan, Jaideep Ahlawat, and Shalini Pandey, with a special appearance by Sharvari.
Set in pre-independence India, Maharaj is based on true events from 1862, following the journey of Karsandas Mulji, one of India's greatest social reformers. The film portrays a David versus Goliath battle, showcasing Mulji's courage in standing against the injustices of his time.
Both critics and fans have praised the film for its powerful performances.
