Oscar-winning actor Robert De Niro has become a father for the seventh time at the age of 79. The star revealed the news at the premiere of his latest film, 'About My Father', in New York on Tuesday night.
Speaking to reporters, De Niro said the pregnancy was planned, and he wasn't surprised by the arrival of the new addition to his family. Although the identity of the mother has not been confirmed, rumours suggest that his girlfriend, Tiffany Chen, may be the mother.
De Niro has four children from previous relationships: two with his first wife, Diahnne Abbott, two with socialite Grace Hightower, and twin sons with model Toukie Smith. Despite his age, De Niro joins a list of Hollywood stars who have become fathers again later in life, including George Lucas, Charlie Chaplin, and Mick Jagger.
The actor, who regularly features in lists of the greatest actors of his generation, is currently promoting his new comedy film 'About My Father', which will be released in the US on May 26. The film tells the story of a man who tries to reconnect with his estranged father, played by De Niro.
Despite the pandemic, De Niro has continued to work on a range of film projects, including the upcoming Martin Scorsese film 'Killers of the Flower Moon'. Despite his busy schedule, the actor has spoken in the past about the importance of family, saying that his children are his "priority".
