Dhanush to star as music legend Ilaiyaraaja in biopic

Dhanush, known for his versatile performances, has unveiled exciting news for his fans. The actor has shared insights into his upcoming project, "Ilaiyaraaja," where he portrays the renowned music legend, Isaignani Ilaiyaraaja.

The biopic is set to release in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, and Hindi languages.

Revealed through a poster on social media, the image showcases an animated depiction of the protagonist, with the caption "Dhanush as Ilaiyaraaj."

Isaignani Ilaiyaraaja, a distinguished musician and composer, has left an indelible mark on the music industry with over 7,000 compositions spanning a career of more than 50 years. The 80-year-old maestro has been honored with prestigious accolades such as the Padma Bhushan, Padma Vibhushan, and Sangeet Natak Akademi Award.

Bollywood trade analyst Taran Adarsh also shared details about the biopic, stating, "Ilaiyaraaja biopic first announcement poster: Dhanush essays title role... Dhanush steps into the shoes of music maestro Ilaiyaraaja... The creators of the much-awaited biopic unveil the retro-style first announcement poster of Ilaiyaraaja, directed by Arun Matheswaran."

The film is produced by Sriram Bakthisaran, CK Padma Kumar, Varun Mathur, Ilamparithy Gajendran, and Saurabh Mishra. Nirav Shah serves as the Director of Photography, while Muthu Raj is the production designer.

In a previous report by Indian Express, it was confirmed that Dhanush would lead the cast in portraying the iconic musician. The project, set to commence filming in 2024 and release in 2025, is anticipated to be a significant endeavor, celebrating one of India's musical legends. The biopic is expected to be produced by Connekkt Media.

Singer Yuvan Shankar Raja, the son of Isaignani Ilaiyaraaja, had expressed his preference for Dhanush to portray his father in the biopic. "A few months back Yuvan Shankar Raja had said that he would love to see Dhanush play his father Ilaiyaraaja in his biopic and the stars seem to have aligned," the report stated.

Dhanush, last seen in Arun Matheswaran's "Captain Miller," continues to captivate audiences with his diverse roles and exceptional talent.
