Coldplay adds third Mumbai concert after ticket frenzy, BookMyShow crashes

British rock band Coldplay has added a third show to the Mumbai leg of their "Music Of The Spheres World Tour 2025" due to overwhelming demand, with tickets for all three concerts selling out quickly.

The band announced the additional performance on January 21, 2025, at Mumbai's DY Patil Sports Stadium, just hours after their initial two shows on January 18 and 19 were met with massive fan interest.

The surge in demand caused the BookMyShow website and app to crash on Sunday, leaving fans frustrated as they encountered long virtual queues and technical issues while trying to purchase tickets.

Hashtags like 'Coldplay,' 'BookMyShow,' and 'Crashed' trended on X (formerly Twitter), with many users sharing screenshots of their stalled booking attempts.

Tickets for the newly added January 21 show went live at 2 PM IST, with prices ranging from Rs 2,500 to Rs 12,500, and Rs 35,000 for the lounge area.

According to BookMyShow, traffic on the platform was unprecedented, with some waitlists reaching over 842,000 users. The site shared updates thanking fans for their patience, acknowledging the delays caused by the heavy traffic.

Amid the chaos, some fans expressed concerns about third-party platforms selling Coldplay tickets at inflated prices. Users pointed out that websites like Viagogo were listing tickets for far more than their official prices.

In response, BookMyShow issued a warning, reminding fans that unauthorized platforms may be selling fake tickets and that they are the only official outlet for ticket sales.

The Mumbai concerts will be Coldplay's first visit to India in eight years, following their performance at the Global Citizen Festival in 2016. The "Music Of The Spheres World Tour 2025" will kick off on October 30 in Melbourne, Australia, and will wrap up in London on August 31, 2025.
