Cannes 2023: Aishwarya Rai makes a dramatic entrance, sparks meme fest

Cannes: Bollywood actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan made her first appearance at Cannes Film Festival 2023 and her outfit has sparked a meme fest. Some even said that the former Miss World is hiding her daughter Aaradhya Bachchan in the dress.

Created by Sophie Couture, the silver gown came with a hood and a black bow. The takeaway is that it is all oversized. According to the design label's Instagram post, the silver sequins are made of aluminum and crystal. "Unveiling a mind-blowing creation from our Maison, paired with lightweight aluminum details, a signature corset, and crystals, from the Cannes Capsule Collection."

While the sketch shared by the designer looks fabulous, many critiqued in the comment section that the actress did not look comfortable in the dress.

"Created in our Atelier in Baku and destined for fashion history: a sculptural metal masterpiece created for none other than the legendary Aishwarya Rai for her only carpet in Cannes," wrote the label in another post.

The dress became the talk of the town very quickly and it came as a surprise to many because Aishwarya is known for almost never taking any fashion risks. She has been walking the red carpet of Cannes for over 20 years now. She first appeared at the festival for the screening of Devdas. She was on the jury next year. She has been representing L'Oreal for close to 20 years.

A section of the internet has taken to trolling the outlandish outfit and compared it to aluminium foil. Memes showing its similarity to the alien from Hritik Roshan-film Jadoo, ice-cream packaging, a man covering his head with a silver sheet, and shawarma surfaced on social media.

However, some fans said she looked like a goddess in the eccentric gown.

Aishwarya Rai and her daughter were spotted before the appearance on the red carpet. The actress was wearing a green sequin dress by Valentino with glass high heels. On the work front, she was last seen in Mani Ratnam's Ponniyin Selvan: Part 2.
