BAFTA Awards: Comedy sitcom about all-female Muslim punk band nominated in 6 categories

Dubai: A sitcom about an all-female Muslim punk band has been nominated in six categories for the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) awards.

The Channel 4 comedy sitcom We are Lady Parts which follows a Muslim female punk band named Lady Parts as they try to find success, has received four nominations in the Craft awards and two in the Television category.

The British Academy of Film and Television Arts announced the nominees for the Virgin Media British Academy Television Awards and British Academy Television Craft Awards on Wednesday.

Nida Manzoor, who created, wrote and directed the sitcom, is nominated for the Writer: Comedy and Emerging Talent: Fiction awards, while Singaporean actress Anjana Vasan, who stars as lead guitar player Amina, is up for Female Performance in a Comedy Program.

The show is also nominated for the Scripted Comedy, Custom Design, and Scripted Casting awards

The Virgin Media BAFTA TV Awards ceremony takes place on May 8 and the TV Craft ceremony on April 24.

We Are Lady Parts has received critical acclaim since it launched earlier in 2021. The series won the prestigious 2021 Edinburgh TV Award for Best Comedy Series and Nida Manzoor was recently announced as the recipient of the illustrious 2021 Rose d'Or Emerging Talent Award, with the show also receiving a nomination for the Rose d'Or Comedy Drama & Sitcom award.
