Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s ‘12th Fail’ staring Vikrant Massey as the lead protagonist, emerged as a surprise hit both theatrically and on the digital platform, receiving praise from the audience and critics alike for its heart-touching storyline and the spectacular performances of the actors.
Industrialist Anand Mahindra recently watched the film and shared his review in a lengthy post on X. In his post, Mahindra suggested his fans and followers that "if they see 'ONE' film this year, they make it this one."
Impressed by the plot of '12th Fail', Mahindra also appreciated the actors' performances and narrative style in detail. He also appealed to director Vidhu Vinod Chopra to make more such films.
"Not just the protagonist, but the millions of youth, hungry for success, who struggle against extraordinary odds to pass what is arguably one of the most competitive exams in the world," Mahindra said.
He praised Chopra for his "brilliant" job of casting in the film and said that each character was credible in the role. "They turned in gritty and passionate performances," he added.
Mahindra made a special mention for Vikrant Massey for delivering a "bravura performance" in '12th Fail' that merits a National Film Award, according to him. “Vikrant was not just acting out the character’s life, he was living it," he said.
Reminding that great cinema is about great stories, Mahindra said "Special effects are no match for the simplicity and authenticity of a story well told."
In his review, Mahindra said that the 'interview scene' was the "highlight" of '12th Fail' for him. "Yes, it may seem a bit contrived, but the profound dialogue makes this sequence hit you squarely between the eyes and shows you what India must do to build a new Bharat," he further added.
The post garnered over 8 lakh views with the comments section filled with positive reactions.
Massey responded to the post by expressing gratitude to Mahindra and said that the review meant the world to him.

Directed by Vidhu Vinod Chopra, ‘12th Fail’ is based on the real-life story of IPS officer Manoj Kumar Sharma, who overcame poverty to become an IPS officer. The film tells the story of millions of students who attempt the UPSC entrance exam.
Massey has been applauded by several celebs for his brilliant and honest portrayal of Sharma in the movie. Released in theatres on October 27, the film is now streaming on Disney + Hotstar.
