Mumbai: Abhishek Bachchan, ahead of his upcoming movie Ghoomer's release, has shared his feelings regarding the increasing fixation of young actors on attaining six-pack abs.
In a recent conversation, he expressed his disappointment over this trend, emphasising that he feels disheartened when actors prioritise building a muscular physique over honing their acting abilities.
Speaking with Dainik Bhaskar, the actor spoke candidly about his concerns. He pointed out that, while some roles do require a strong physical presence, it doesn't necessarily mean that actors need to constantly flaunt their six-pack abs. He stated, "I get upset when I see this obsession with six-pack abs. Look at Aamir Khan! He was so fit in Dhoom 3 and he looked fat in (a few portions of) Dangal. Young actors these days believe they can become actors just by getting six-pack abs. Bro, focus on your language... work on your acting skills. That is what makes actors, not (well-built) bodies."
Abhishek Bachchan also acknowledged that certain characters demand a robust physical appearance. He mentioned that he would consider acquiring six-pack abs only if a role necessitated it. He used his character Jay Dixit from the movie Dhoom as an example, underlining that while the role required fitness, it wasn't about flaunting chiselled abs.
This sentiment resonates with veteran actor Sunny Deol's earlier comments on how newer actors seem to prioritise bodybuilding over refining their acting craft.
Abhishek Bachchan, when asked about a potential sequel to the movie Bholaa, in which he played a cameo villainous role, mentioned that his participation was driven by his friendship and respect for Ajay Devgn, who directed the film. He stated that only Ajay Devgn could confirm or deny the prospects of a Bholaa sequel.
Switching the topic to his upcoming film Ghoomer, which is directed by R. Balki, Abhishek said despite sharing the project with his father Amitabh Bachchan, the duo will not have any joint scenes in the film. Ghoomer, starring Saiyami Kher, Shabana Azmi, and Angad Bedi alongside Abhishek Bachchan, is set to release on August 18.
