Chennai: Oscar-winning sound designer Resul Pookutty, along with fellow sound designer Vijay Kumar, has been nominated for the prestigious 72nd Golden Reel Awards for their outstanding work on the Malayalam cinematic masterpiece, 'Aadujeevitham' (The Goat Life).
Resul Pookutty shared the exciting news on his X timeline, expressing his joy over the nomination for the 72nd Golden Reel Awards. He thanked his collaborator Vijay Kumar and acknowledged the film’s director Blessy, composer A.R. Rahman, and actor Prithviraj Sukumaran for their support. Pookutty noted that the nomination was a proud moment for their work in "The Goat Life," emphasizing the significance of being recognized by the Motion Picture Sound Editors (MPSE) in the U.S.
The Golden Reel Awards, presented by the Motion Picture Sound Editors (MPSE), are among the most prestigious honors in sound editing globally. 'Aadujeevitham' has been nominated in the category of Outstanding Achievement in Sound Editing - Feature International, competing with international films such as 'Emilia Perez', 'The Girl with the Needle', and 'Kneecap'.
Directed by renowned Malayalam filmmaker Blessy, 'Aadujeevitham' is an adaptation of Benyamin’s acclaimed novel of the same name. Based on a real-life incident, the story chronicles the journey of Najeeb, a migrant worker from Kerala who travels to Saudi Arabia in search of better opportunities. Trapped in an exploitative situation, he becomes a shepherd in the desert under harsh conditions. After enduring immense hardship, Najeeb eventually escapes and returns to India.
The film stars Prithviraj Sukumaran in the lead role, with music composed by A. R. Rahman, cinematography by K. U. Mohanan, and editing by Sreekar Prasad.
Released last year, 'Aadujeevitha received critical acclaim and swept nine awards at the 54th Kerala State Film Awards. It won in several key categories, including Best Director (Blessy), Best Actor (Prithviraj), and Best Sound Mixing (Resul Pookutty and Sarath Mohan).
The nomination for the Golden Reel Awards highlights the film’s exceptional technical craftsmanship and its global recognition in the field of sound editing.
