Ker film academy to archive life and works of movie legends

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Chalachitra Academy has launched an ambitious programme to archive and digitise the life and works of legendary people, who have made significant contributions to the growth of Malayalam cinema.

The state-run Academy, under the Department of Cultural Affairs, has set up a special panel for the purpose and begun collecting data.

Academy Chairman Rajeev Nath said the core objective of the initiative was to chronicle the history of Malayalam cinema through the works of doyens, who had paved way for its growth.

"We have already formed a panel of directors and film enthusiasts to collect data for the project. The work is progressing," Nath told PTI.

He said the profiles of all significant personalities, who have made contributions in different areas of Malayalam cinema, would be compiled as part of the programme.

"Not only the profiles of directors and actors, but also of script writers, singers, composers, lyricists, cinematographers will be prepared under the project. We are trying to include all areas of film industry in it," he said.

Nath, a National Award-winning director, said the project would be a great help for future generation to get a clear picture of the growth of Malayalam cinema.

He also said the digitising of the movies of eminent director late G Aravindan is progressing as part of the Academy's programme to digitise old Malayalam classics.

Chalachitra Academy is the organiser of the annual International Film Festival of Kerala, a sought after event for movie buffs in and outside the country.
