Manjeri: The Manjeri fast-track court on Saturday awarded ten years rigorous imprisonment (RI) to three of the four accused in the sensational Chelembra bank robbery case while the fourth accused was sentenced to five years jail term.
The Court also imposed a fine of Rs.20, 000 on each of the convicts.
The South Malabar Gramin Bank's Chelembra branch was robbed in the early hours of December 30, 2007. The robbers burrowed in through the floor of the bank's strong room, and used a gas-cutting machine to open the lockers. They escaped with gold weighing 80kg and Rs 25 lakh in cash.
