New Delhi: The Enforcement Directorate Monday arrested Aam Aadmi Party MLA Amanatullah Khan in a case related to alleged irregularities in appointments to the Delhi Waqf Board and its property leasing
Earlier in the day when ED officials arrived at his residence, Amanatullah Khan alleged that the agency was planning to arrest him.
The agency launched the search as part of its probe against the AAP MLA over money laundering case related to ‘alleged irregularities in appointments in Delhi Waqf Board and leasing of its properties’.
In a video message on X, Khan said that the ED team had come to arrest him on the pretext of a search just as his mother-in-law, a cancer patient, was at home after a surgery four days ago.
He accused the agency of ‘harassing’ him alongside his ‘whole party’ for two years, ‘slapping false cases’, adding that ‘their objective to break our party’.
He appealed people to pray for him, promising that ‘we will get all your work done. Don't worry, we will not get scared.’
Footage showed Khan speaking apparently to an ED official just as elderly woman lying on a bed.
He was seen asking the official for ‘four weeks’ time’ saying that his mother-in-law had a surgery but the official responded asking why he believed they were going to arrest him. To which, Khan responded: "Why else have you come?"
AAP leaders Manish Sisodia and Sanjay Singh alleged that the BJP government at the Centre was targeting those raising voice against the ruling party.
AAP MP Sanjay Singh said that the ED had searched Khan’s residence last year but found nothing.
