New Delhi: Salman Rushdie to publish a memoir on the 2022 knife attack, which took the vision of his right eye on him on April 16. The book "Knife: Meditations After an Attempted Murder" is going to be published by Penguin Random House India, which made the announcement on Thursday.
The book reportedly narrates the traumatic ordeal, which happened on August 12, 2022, he had gone through with "unforgettable details". The shocking attack on him happened at the Chautauqua Institution, where a man in a black mask wielded the knife against him.
The 76-year-old Booker Prize Laurette recalls the attack's aftermath and his journey towards physical recovery and healing, PTI reported.
"This was a necessary book for me to write: a way to take charge of what happened and to answer violence with art," the author said.
The 256-page book is "a deeply moving reminder of literature's capacity to make sense of the unthinkable, an intimate and life-affirming meditation on life, loss, love, art and finding the strength to stand up again".
"Knife by Salman Rushdie is an important book about the world we live in and the place of literature in it. It is a must-read," Milee Ashwarya, publisher - Penguin Random House India, said in a statement.
His other works include the Booker Prize-winning "Midnight's Children", "Shame" and "The Moor's Last Sigh".
