New Delhi: A global list of nations with best cuisines ranks India fifth, thanks to diverse foods that sum up the sub-continent’s cooking tradition.
Audiences who voted for ingredients, dishes and beverages put Italy in the first place followed by Greece and Spain, according to Taste Atlas.
The rating gave India 4.54 points for foods including "garam masala, malai, ghee, butter garlic naan, keema". There are a total of 460 items in the list.
Some of the best restaurants in India, picked out by the survey, are Shree Thaker Bhojanalay (Mumbai), Karavalli (Bengaluru), Bukhara (New Delhi), Dum Pukht (New Delhi), Comorin (Gurugram).
The globally most popular Chinese cuisine found itself only on 11 th place in the list, while Japan, the United States of America, Turkiye, France and Peru made it to the top ten.
However, many foodies out there are not pleased with the ranking with some claiming cuisines of their country are better than others.
Some questioned the list saying that it did not justify rankings.
One user online quipped there is an error because England is on the list for some reason.
Another more hard hitting comment said “This is a list you'd come up with if you'd never eaten food" according to NDTV.
Somebody who claimed to have traveled to 40/50 countries wrote that the list was most inaccurate, adding that many foodie country like Morocco, Ethiopia, Myanmar were left out.
One user called for including Lebanon, Pakistan, Thailand, and Jamaica in the top 10 and asked how England was included on the list.
Somebody wondered whether Oreo is the touted American cuisine.
