Zomato, the popular food delivery platform, has rolled out a new feature called 'Order Scheduling,' which allows customers to schedule their food orders up to two days in advance.
This feature, announced by Zomato's CEO and founder, Deepinder Goyal, on Saturday, August 24, is currently available in select cities, including Delhi NCR, Bengaluru, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Chandigarh, Lucknow, and Jaipur.
The service is initially limited to orders exceeding Rs 1,000 and is available at around 13,000 restaurants in these cities.
Goyal explained that these cities were chosen because the restaurants in these areas typically maintain consistent kitchen preparation times and have sufficient stock of dishes. He also mentioned that Zomato plans to expand the 'Order Scheduling' feature to more cities and restaurants in the future, eventually making it available regardless of the order value.
The introduction of this feature has been well-received by users on X (formerly known as Twitter).
One user expressed excitement, saying, "Always wanted this feature. Great job." Another user highlighted its utility, noting, "On days when the cook is on leave, I can schedule my lunch before leaving from home because I almost forget to order it on time in the office due to meetings."
This new development comes shortly after Zomato decided to discontinue its intercity food delivery service, 'Zomato Legends.'
The service, which allowed customers to order food from famous eateries across the country, was shut down due to the company's inability to find the right market fit after two years of operation. Goyal shared this update on X, stating, "Update on Zomato Legends - after two years of trying, not finding product market fit, we have decided to shut down the service with immediate effect."
