California: Elon Musk's Tesla is looking for great talents in India for leadership and senior-level roles as part of Tesla's plan to foray into the global electric vehicle market that is expected to become one of the world's most promising in near future.
The California-based electric vehicle maker is recruiting for positions including head of sales and marketing, and head of human resources, according to a person familiar with the matter, as reported by Bloomberg.
Meanwhile, a Tesla fan club had tweeted last week that the company has brought a senior legal counsel on board.
However, Tesla has neither made any official statements nor respond to the request for comment by the news site.
After months of speculations, On January 13 CEO Elon Musk had confirmed to a Tesla-focussed blog that the carmaker was in talks with several Indian states to open an office, showrooms and a research and development centre and possibly a factory.
Recent media reports also stated that Prashanth Menon, who has been with the company for four years, has been elevated to the Director of India operations position lately. If this is true, Menon is expected to oversee Tesla's introduction to India.
Though India is keen on pushing to an electric car ecosystem, the lack of charging infrastructure is one of the biggest impediments to EV adaptation in the country. So, Tesla seems to be closely monitoring announcements from the Modi government regarding incentives to EV makers under the production-linked incentive programme before entering India.
Currently, EV sales in the country amount to less than 1 per cent of annual car sales.
