New Delhi: Following Prime Minister Narendra Modi's successful visit to the United States, Elon Musk's Tesla has significantly increased its hiring efforts in India, where the electric car maker is preparing to enter the market soon. Tesla’s recruitment push comes after a meeting between Musk and PM Modi in Washington, DC, where they discussed a range of topics, including space, mobility, technology, and innovation.

Tesla has posted job openings for at least 13 positions on its LinkedIn page, primarily based in Mumbai and Delhi. The roles include business operation analysts, service technicians, and various advisory positions such as customer engagement managers and order operations specialists.

Tesla has posted 13 job openings on its website.

This hiring surge coincides with India's recent reduction in the basic customs duty on high-end cars priced over $40,000, cutting it from 110% to 70%. While Musk has previously expressed interest in developing a more affordable Tesla model for India, there has been limited progress on that front.

During their meeting, Musk expressed his admiration for PM Modi, calling it an “honour” to meet him. PM Modi shared on X, "It was a delight to meet Elon Musk’s family and discuss a wide range of subjects, including space, mobility, technology, and innovation. I highlighted India’s efforts toward reform and the vision of ‘Minimum Government, Maximum Governance.’"

The meeting took place at the Blair House in Washington, DC, and focused on strengthening collaboration between Indian and U.S. entities in innovation, space exploration, artificial intelligence, and sustainable development. They also discussed opportunities to enhance cooperation in emerging technologies, entrepreneurship, and good governance, according to a statement from the Ministry of External Affairs.

As a gesture of goodwill, PM Modi presented books to Musk’s three children, including 'The Crescent Moon' by Rabindranath Tagore, 'The Great RK Narayan Collection', and 'Panchatantra' by Pandit Vishnu Sharma. Musk, in turn, gifted PM Modi a heat shield tile from SpaceX’s Starship flight test 5, engraved with the words "Starship flight test 5, October 12, 2024."
