New Delhi: Automobile manufacturer Tata Motors on Saturday reported a rise of 24 per cent in its domestic sales in December 2021 on a year-on-year basis while two-wheeler major Hero MotoCorp reported a fall of 11.75 per cent in its total sales during the same period.
While the domestic sales of Tata Motors rose to 66,307 units during the month under review from 53,430 units sold during December 2020, Hero sold only 394,773 units of motorcycles and scooters last month from an off-take of 447,335 units in December 2020. In December 2021, Hero's total sales sequentially grew by 13 per cent over the month of November 2021 when the company had sold 349,393 units.
Tata's total commercial vehicle sales rose to 31,008 units in December 2021 from 29,885 units sold during the corresponding month of the previous year while total passenger vehicle sales rose by 50 per cent to 35,299 units from 23,545 units off-take in December 2020.
Meanwhile, Hero sold 2.89 lakh units in its markets spread across Asia, Africa South and Central America and the Caribbean in the calendar year 2021, clocking a robust growth of 71 per cent over the corresponding period in the previous year, when it had sold 1.69 lakh units in its markets outside of India.Furthermore, Hero MotoCorp has rapidly expanded its global footprint to over 42 countries across three continents.
In addition, Hero is gearing up to unveil its first Electric Vehicle (EV) in March this year.
Sathish Chandra, Tata motors' President, Passenger Vehicles Business Unit reacted that the ever-increasing demand for Nexon EV and Tigor EV, as well as progressive revival of the EV fleet segment, were instrumental in driving this steep growth last year.
"Going forward, semiconductor supplies will remain the key source of uncertainty. Additionally, the impact of the new strain of Covid needs to be closely tracked. We will continue to work on a business agility plan and take proactive actions to mitigate these risks," Chandra said
At the same time, Sanjay Bhan, Head - Global Business of Hero MotoCorp reacted that the company's new strategy of R4 - Recalibrate, Revitalise, Revolutionise, Revive - has already started yielding results for us. The volumes in our global markets in the calendar year 2021 is in line with our plans, keeping in mind the constraints in global logistics and supply chain on account of the prevailing Covid-19 pandemic," said
"We are well on track to meet our target of garnering 15 per cent of the company's total volumes from our global business by 2025."
