India’s ‘Made in India’ smartphone shipments grew by 6% year-on-year (YoY) in 2024, according to a market research report.

Samsung and Vivo dominated the market, with Samsung retaining its position as the top smartphone manufacturer. Meanwhile, Samsung and Apple together accounted for 94% of total smartphone exports, driven by the Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme.

As per Counterpoint Research’s ‘Make in India’ Service, Samsung maintained its leadership in the Indian smartphone industry in 2024, registering a 6% YoY growth in total shipments and a 13% YoY increase in exports. The company captured 20% of the Indian smartphone market.

Vivo followed closely behind, ranking second with a 14% market share. The brand’s offline expansion and stronger distribution network were key factors contributing to its growth. On the other hand, Oppo faced a significant decline of 34% in shipments, causing it to drop to fourth place in the rankings.

Among Indian manufacturers, Dixon Technologies emerged as the leading producer of smartphones and feature phones, achieving an impressive 39% YoY growth. The company’s strong performance was attributed to its partnerships with Transsion brands and Realme.

Tata Electronics recorded the fastest growth in 2024, with an astounding 107% YoY increase in production. The company’s success was largely driven by the production of iPhone 15 and iPhone 16 models. To solidify its role in the global electronics industry, Tata Electronics has ventured into semiconductor fabrication, setting up a factory in Haryana and an Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test (OSAT) plant in Assam.

DBG Technology, which manufactures smartphones for brands like Xiaomi and Realme, also witnessed double-digit growth in 2024.
