New Delhi: The relationship between India and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) continues to deepen through a sector-focused partnership centred on trade, energy security, logistics and technology cooperation, according to a new report by Times Kuwait.
The report noted that the India-UAE relationship is driven by economic pragmatism and mutual investment opportunities, enabling both countries to pursue shared economic objectives while maintaining flexibility in their broader foreign policy engagements.
The partnership has gained significant momentum through initiatives such as the India-Middle East-Europe Corridor (IMEC) and expanded cooperation in the energy sector.
In May 2026, New Delhi and Abu Dhabi signed a strategic partnership agreement aimed at enhancing collaboration in advanced technology, innovation, industrial development, maritime security and information exchange.
According to the report, the agreement is expected to create new opportunities in high-value sectors, facilitate technology transfer and strengthen the capabilities of both nations in areas crucial for future economic growth.
While not structured as a traditional formal alliance, the framework reflects growing interest in developing integrated economic corridors and expanding commercial connectivity across multiple regions.
The report highlighted the strategic importance of the UAE's Fujairah energy hub for India. Located outside the Strait of Hormuz, the facility provides petroleum storage options that help diversify India's energy logistics network and storage capacity.
"The arrangement strengthens India's energy security by diversifying storage options and improving supply-chain resilience during periods of market volatility or geopolitical uncertainty," the report stated.
The Middle East remains a key component of India's economic strategy, serving as an important source of energy supplies, investment and trade connectivity. The region is also home to a large Indian expatriate community that plays a significant role in strengthening bilateral economic relations.
The report further noted that the India-UAE partnership complements broader regional initiatives such as I2U2 — comprising India, the UAE, Israel and the United States — which seeks to promote cooperation in technology, infrastructure, logistics, food security and investment.
As both countries expand cooperation across strategic sectors, the partnership is increasingly emerging as a key pillar of regional economic integration and long-term growth.
