Hiring level returns to 'normal' in India: Report

Indian economy is gearing up to get back to the pre-pandemic days. A report by Indeed says that hiring activity in India has hit a pre-pandemic level for the first time in months.

There have also been signs of improvement in the economy. Sashi Kumar, Head of Sales at Indeed India, said in a statement that the reopening of the economy and the efforts by businesses to work around the challenges presented by Covid-19 have pushed the Indian job market towards recovery.

The job postings for IT tech software roles have increased by 19% between July 2020 and July 2021. Postings for other IT jobs like project head and engineers have increased by 8-16%, reported IANS.

Jobs like housekeepers, caretakers, housekeeping managers, custodians, executive housekeepers, and cleaners have seen a 60% growth between July 2020 and July 2021 due to the easing of lockdown restrictions. The opening of spaces has drawn the focus to hygiene and sanitisation. Opportunities in the food and retail sectors have also seen a 52% and 39% growth. HR and finance sectors grew by 27%, said the Indeed report.

Sashi Kumar told The News Minute that while the relevance of tech jobs continues to be high, the renewed demand for retail and food jobs indicates that the consumption economy will play an important role in driving job growth further. He added that hygiene has become a top priority for employers and job seekers.
