HDFC Bank, India's leading mortgage lender, has taken action against one of its senior officers following the leak of a video featuring the individual engaging in inappropriate workplace behavior that is being called bullying. In the video, the man can be seen shouting profanities and reprimanding colleagues for failing to meet their targets.
The now-suspended senior vice president, whose identity has not been disclosed by the company, can be heard in the viral video questioning the number of savings and current accounts opened in the past two days.
"How many savings and current accounts have you opened in the last two days? Tell me. You were supposed to open 15, you have opened 5," the suspended employee yelled at a coworker, accompanied by an offensive remark.
Emphasizing its commitment to maintaining a respectful work environment, the bank has stated that it has a "zero tolerance" policy towards any form of misconduct. The suspended employee's case is being thoroughly investigated in accordance with the bank's Conduct guidelines, said Ajay, a service manager at HDFC. "Based on a preliminary enquiry in the matter, the concerned employee has been suspended and a detailed investigation has been initiated which will be undertaken as per Conduct guidelines of the Bank," he added.
HDFC Bank strongly upholds the belief in treating all its employees with dignity and respect, said the bank in a statement.
