Guwahati Airport hits record 5.6 million passengers in 2023

In the span of a year, Assam's Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport in Guwahati, managed by Adani Airports, observed a significant surge, handling approximately 5.6 million passengers in 2023.

This figure notably surpassed the previous year's count of 4.6 million passengers, marking an increase of a million travelers.

The airport, bustling with activity, saw about 2.9 million arrivals and 2.7 million departures in 2023, reflecting a substantial volume of air traffic. Aircraft movements also soared, reaching over 46,000 flights, comprising approximately 23,300 arrivals and an equal number of departures. This exhibited an upsurge from the previous year's count of around 41,000 flights.

Utpal Baruah, the Chief Airport Officer (CAO) at Adani LGBI Airport, expressed contentment with the airport's exceptional performance, citing a 17% growth, one of the highest in the country.

He highlighted the operational challenges posed by the terminal's limited capacity, mentioning plans to inaugurate a new terminal with double the current capacity to cater to the escalating demand. Additionally, Baruah outlined upcoming connections to Jaipur, Bhubaneswar, and Bangkok, with efforts underway to establish more domestic and international routes.

The airport, having served domestic flights to Jaipur and Bhubaneswar in the past year, had Bangkok as its sole international destination.

Moreover, a significant milestone was achieved on Christmas Eve in 2023, witnessing a record-breaking day with 19,290 passengers handled by the airport in a single day, signifying the airport's increasing prominence and operational efficiency.
