Foxconn unveils Rs 700 crore housing project for women workers in Tamil Nadu

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin is set to inaugurate a landmark industrial housing project worth Rs 700 crore, dedicated exclusively to more than 18,000 female employees of the iPhone manufacturing giant, Foxconn.

This significant initiative is located at the SIPCOT Vallam Vadagal industrial estate in Sriperumbudur, Kancheepuram district, and will be launched in the presence of Foxconn Chairman Young Liu.

Tamil Nadu Minister of Industries, TRB Rajaa, emphasized the project's role in providing a safe, secure, and clean environment for the women employed at the factory. The housing complex, which consists of 13 blocks with 10 floors each, is designed to accommodate a total of 18,720 workers, reported NDTV.

In addition to living quarters, the facility includes various essential amenities such as kitchens, dining areas, round-the-clock power supply, clean water, and recreational spaces, ensuring a comprehensive and supportive living environment for the workers.

The development of this project follows previous protests by some of the women workers, who had raised concerns over poor working conditions. This new housing complex aims to address those issues and improve the overall quality of life for the employees.

Minister Rajaa hinted at more positive developments in the pipeline, particularly with the Chief Minister's upcoming visit to the United States. In response to criticisms from Tamil Nadu opposition leader Edappadi K. Palaniswami, who claimed that investments were leaving the state, Rajaa remarked that the opposition leader should take note of the progress being made.
