‘As their house of cards begins to collapse…’ : filmmaker attacks Byju’s

New Delhi: Filmmaker Hansal Mehta came down on edtech major Byju’s even as the company is in the throes of managing issues.

Byju’s success story once put it at the zenith of the online education before it began facing problems post the pandemic.

Hansal Mehta is among those previously criticised the company for what NDTV said its ‘infamous’ marketing strategies.

Hansal Mehta reportedly tweeted to share details of his ‘run-in’ with the marketing team of the company whom he had to drive them out of his house, according to the report.

Mehta recounted that the team came to his house and tried to convince his daughter that she was ‘poor academically’.

‘I'd called out Byjus when they came to my house trying to sell programs that my daughter did not need during the pandemic. They tried to convince her that she was poor academically in order to make an extra buck. I had to drive them out of my house,’ Mehta reportedly tweeted.

However, he said he was trolled for speaking against the company, which made him to delete his post.

‘ As their house of cards begins to collapse it's time to remind ourselves that not all rags to riches stories are stories of honest intentions and legitimate wins,’ Mehta added.

The filmmaker shared his 2021 tweet where he criticised the online education company saying, ‘@BYJUS is a total sham. It is material for Scam S4’.

The ed-tech, founded by Byju Raveendran in 2011, is reportedly going through a crisis but Raveendran exuded confidence that it will ‘bounce back’.

Raveendran is said to have openly acknowledged that his company has been struggling for ‘ last 12 months’, adding that ‘But edtech will stay forever, and we are the pioneers. We are in the correct space.’
