Will oppose any efforts intending to displace Gazans: Britain
text_fieldsLondon: The UK informed on Thursday that it will oppose any efforts to move Palestinians from the Gaza Strip against their will. British foreign minister Anneliese Dodds told the English Parliament that there must be no forced displacement of Palestinians nor reduction in the territory of the Gaza Strip.
The British stance came when US President Donald Trump announced on Wednesday that it would “take over” the war-torn enclave and resettle Palestinians. He claimed that he envisioned building a resort where international communities could live in harmony, Reuters reported.
Trump's "take over" announcement, which came two days after his meeting with war-crime accused Israeli President Benjamin Netanyahu, received severe outcry across the world. Congress party in India sharply came down on US President Donald Trump over his “taking over” of the Gaza Strip on Wednesday. Congress General Secretary in-charge communications, Jairam Ramesh, called Trump’s statement “bizarre” and unacceptable.
"President Trump's loud thinking on the future of Gaza is bizarre, dangerous, and totally unacceptable. A two-state solution that fulfils the completely legitimate aspirations of the Palestinian people to lead a life in independence and dignity, and also ensures security for Israel, is the ONLY basis for sustainable peace in West Asia," the Congress leader and MP wrote on X.
"The Modi Govt. must make its position absolutely clear. Other Govts have done so already," he wrote.
Hamas called the statement “ridiculous and absurd and said that the militant group sees the statement as a recipe for generating chaos and tension in the region.
Senior Hamas official Sami Abu Zuhri said that Trump’s remarks about his desire to control Gaza are ridiculous and absurd, and such ideas are capable of igniting the region. He added that the Gazan people will not allow such an idea to pass.
