Imran Khan likened himself to hanged PM Zulfikar Ali Bhutto

Islamabad: Faced with the daunting no-trust motion days away, Prime Minister Imran Khan is making the last ditch effort to stay in power.

He has been on the stump in rallies many days attempting to whip up protest against the Opposition parties and defectors from his party PTI.

In his latest speech, Imran Khan brought to minds a name most Pakistanis would never forget —former Prime Minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto.

Imran Khan likened himself to Bhutto, the founder chair of Pakistan People's Party. Bhutto was hanged at Adiala Jail, Rawalpindi on April 4, 1979, following an alleged summary trial.

Now Imran Khan claimed that Bhutto was hanged for attempting to give Pakistan an independent foreign policy.

Last week Imran Khan said that Pakistan needed a independent foreign policy, which was his aim.

He praised India's neutral stand during the Russia-Ukraine crisis.

Waving a letter to public at the rally on Sunday, he said his government had been threatened in writing with the connivance of people from Pakistan.

He claimed that attempt was on to change the government for his attempt to adopt an independent foreign policy.

"The parties of Fazlur Rehman and fugitive Nawaz Sharif at that time had started a movement against Zulfikar Ali Bhutto. Such circumstances were created, which led to hanging of Bhutto," Khan was quoted as saying.

Without bearing out his claims with evidence, Imran Khan said foreign money was being used to change the government in Pakistan.

Khan said Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi knew that the conspiracy was being hatched for the last few months, I ANS reported.
